It’s been a challenging time for us as the election cycle finally came to an end.
I bought a matinee ticket in the 2nd mezzanine for a Broadway show on the day after Election Day, knowing that it could be a good day to do something that I love, no matter the results.
As I stood in line to enter the theatre, I had my own Metropolitan Diary moment. A guy came up to me and pointedly said, “You won the lottery!” I was baffled and suspicious at the same time. He went on to say that his friend couldn’t make it to the show so he had a free ticket for me in the front row if I wanted it.
Feeling skeptical, I asked to see his ticket.
It was indeed Row A.
The man looked and acted normal. But I was still wary. Several other women in the line around me who had witnessed this encounter encouraged me to go for it. So I said okay and followed him into the theater. Our seats in the center of the first row overlooking the orchestra pit were amazing and easily the best seats in the house.
What a great show! Sunset Blvd. was SO fabulous – the choreography, music, voices, and story. Oh, and to see the actors’ expressions so up close and personal was totally priceless!
My new friend who offered me the seat said that he chose me for the ticket because I was alone!
This was a such a cool serendipitous experience and here are some of the thoughts that I took to heart:
1. Plan something that you lovewhen you’re not sure how things are going to go.
2. Don’t be afraid to go alone.
3. Good things happen even in hard times.
What’s your impression from this New York moment? I’d love to know.
