I have been a knitter ever since I was about 15 years old when I made my first pair of leg warmers. But as life became busier and busier, my knitting took a back seat. Still, while my passion for knitting is always close to my heart, I have procrastinated getting back into it for years.

With some friendly encouragement from a knitting buddy back in May of 2022, I finally bought yarn for a sweater pattern.

But the pattern was complicated which made me procrastinate even longer.  Finally I took myself to Argyle Yarn in Windsor Terrace, a neighborhood near me in Brooklyn, where expert knitting teacher Kate helped me understand the pattern.

I joined a Zoom online knitting group, but the sweater pattern continued to confuse me. I was embarrassed that I couldn’t chat, knit and count the stitches of the pattern at the same time.

Then another 2+ years lapse took place while my sweater sat in a tote bag in my closet. I couldn’t even bring myself to pull it out and see what was left to do.

Several more years have passed and still, no knitting.

Suddenly, in this new year 2025, I rekindled my desire to knit. But this time, I faced the fact that I could not do this alone and needed help.

So I signed up for (4) in-person knitting classes over two separate weekends with Kate at Argyle Yarn. It turns out I was very close to being done with my long-neglected sweater. While in class, I finished up the last sleeve and sewed it all together in one weekend. THIS felt SO good!

Next I’ll sew in the ends and put on the buttons…

Sitting together with other women knitting in class was absolutely lovely. Everyone oohed and aahed over each other’s projects and when we ran into difficulties, we each asked for Kate’s help, then breathed a sigh of relief when she fixed the issue so we could begin knitting again. I’ve already begun a new sweater for a baby that’s due in April!
